The post was about the release of a new video, and it was a teaser. I clicked on the link and watched it. Didn't even finish it. I normally love watching these type of videos, but I hated it. I realized it was because it was exactly like EVERY other video about slammed cars currently out there. In fact it looked exactly the same as the first video the studio made.

So if you couldn't tell, this particular rant is for the benefit of the filmers in the scene and for my own as well. As much as I love the car scene and what not, it's just a whole lot of the same. One person decides to make a car video using rigs and cranes, the rest of the world follows. Now every single video posted featuring a car or a car show looks exactly the same, sporting the latest underground hip-hop track, sepia tone filters and slow moving pans and tight crops of the wheels and stickers occasionally cutting to a new visual on the beat of the music. These videos are a dime a dozen now, I wanna see something different. I am not trying to say I can make a better one, in fact I don't even like filming that much at all. I even admit that I have made a car video in the past myself that was quite cliche and I was proud of it. I had the sepia tone, the pans, the cuts and a bumping audio tune included. In reality, I was just lazy and didn't want to put in the mental effort to create a video that was very involved at all and I just wanted to appear cool. Side note. My video wasn't even good.

Maybe I enjoy the action in the movies too much, or the way cars are portrayed on the popular tv show Top Gear. Perhaps its the internet making the world tiny and garbage humongous thats causing this influx of dull visual stimulation. Sorry, not all of it is really dull, I actually think its probably the amount of the same content that makes the viewer become numb to the dull boring pans and similar sounding audio treatments. Oops, I said dull again. Okay so maybe it is dull. I mean do something else. Really. Adding slow pans and tight crops to show the workmanship of the machine is great and all, but it does not make a GREAT video. So please switch it up. Or at the very least, DO NOT USE THE WHOLE FOUR MINUTES OF THE SONG while focusing in and out of the SAME vehicle. It gets old real quick.

With that said I do appreciate the filmmakers who keep it short. Much more interesting and makes you want to see more. I am not saying that short equals awesome, but it definitely helps. Ironic how this isn't exactly short, but whatever. Try thinking from the viewpoint of someone who isn't even interested in stance, speed, or even cars for that matter, and doing something to hold their interest. I think everyone could benefit from that.

I am by no means an expert, just stating my observations and trying to urge people to try something different.

Remember "familiarity breeds contempt."
